WAYNESBURG, Pa. (April 18) – The Waynesburg University softball team hosted Westminster for a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) doubleheader on Tuesday. The Yellow Jacket offense struggled on the afternoon, as the Titans swept the twin-bill by the final scores of 4-0 and 9-0.
Waynesburg (11-18-1, 5-7) was only outhit 9-6 in the opener, but the Titans (23-7, 11-1) pushed two runs across on sacrifice flies and were helped out by three Jacket errors.
Senior designated player
Lyndi Gareis and sophomore leftfielder
Cat Allstatt both went two-for-three in the opener. Gareis came up with Waynesburg's only extra-base hit of the contest when she smacked a double in the bottom of the second inning.
Sophomore pitcher
Courtney Messenger suffered the loss in the circle after giving up all four runs over seven innings of work. She allowed nine base hits, walked one and struck out one opposing hitter.
Freshmen
Cheyenne Wasko and
Ashley Dubovich came up with hits in game two, but that was the extent of the Yellow Jackets' offensive production. Allstatt worked a complete game and suffered the loss in the circle.
Waynesburg is back in action on Friday, April 21, when it hosts Mount Aloysius for a non-PAC doubleheader. First pitch is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
