LATROBE, Pa. (Sept. 2) – The Waynesburg University volleyball team wrapped up its two-day stay at the Saint Vincent Bearcat Challenge on Saturday. The Yellow Jackets dropped a pair of matches to close out a 1-3 run at the event.
Waynesburg (1-3) dropped a 3-0 contest to Franciscan to open Saturday's play. The Jackets came up short in three tightly contested sets. The Barons (1-3) earned the sweep by the scores of 25-22, 25-21, 25-23.
The Orange and Black bounced back from losses in the first two sets of its match with Muskingum (4-0) to down the Muskies 25-23 in set three. The Red and Black closed out the victory in set four.
Junior
Jordyn Wyllie and sophomore
Addie Barr totaled 12 and 10 kills, respectively, on Saturday. Freshman
Olivia Zuchelli and
Alexis Phillips handled the bulk of the passing duties by posting 19 and 18 assists, respectively.
Sophomore
Alyssa Proper was solid on defense. She averaged 4.43 digs per set and totaled 31 over seven sets. For her efforts over two days of competition, Proper represented Waynesburg on the all-tournament team.
Waynesburg returns to action on Tuesday, Sept. 5, when it hosts La Roche at the Rudy Marisa Fieldhouse. Start time is scheduled for 7 p.m. The Redhawks defeated the Jackets 3-0 on Friday at Saint Vincent.
