WAYNESBURG, Pa. (Sept. 5) – The Waynesburg University volleyball team squared off with La Roche for the second time in five days. Unfortunately, the Redhawks got the best of the Yellow Jackets for a second time this year, downing Waynesburg 3-1 at the Rudy Marisa Fieldhouse.
The Jackets (1-4) grabbed a 1-0 lead in the match after pulling out a 27-25 win in set one. La Roche (2-3) rebounded by taking the final three sets of the evening by the scores of 25-21, 25-15, 25-21.
The home team was led by junior
Jordyn Wyllie, who put down a team-high 12 kills. Her classmate,
Lexy Waldman, chipped in eight kills. The Jacket hitters were helped out by the freshman pair of
Olivia Zuchelli and
Alexis Phillips, who recorded 14 and 13 assists, respectively.
The Jacket defense was led by sophomore
Alyssa Proper, who posted a match-high 21 digs. Wyllie completed the first Waynesburg double-double of the 2017 season with 15 digs. The Waynesburg defense was particularly strong at the net, where it produced 11 total blocks.
The Yellow Jackets are back in action tomorrow, when they open Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) play at Bethany. Start time is scheduled for 7 p.m.
