HUNTINGDON, Pa. (Sept. 1) – The Waynesburg University women's soccer team opened its 2017 campaign at Juniata on Friday night. The Yellow Jackets scored first, but couldn't maintain the lead, as the Eagles came back to log a 2-1 victory in overtime.

Melanie Byler got the scoring going by finding the back of the net in the 29
th minute after taking a feed from freshman
Maddy Manz. The Jackets (0-1) maintained the edge throughout the remainder of the first half. Unfortunately, Juniata tallied the equalizer in period number two and sent the contest into overtime.
The Eagles proceeded to bury the game winner in the 95
th minute of play to grab the win in front of their home crowd. Waynesburg stayed right with Juniata, despite the host squad outshooting the Orange and Black by a 13-3 margin.
Sophomore goalkeeper
Courtney Syfert recorded six saves on the evening, all of which came in the second half.
Waynesburg wraps up a busy first weekend of the season tomorrow with another road game, this time at Penn State Altoona. Start time is scheduled for 3 p.m.
