ALTOONA, Pa. (Sept. 2) – After giving up the first goal of the game, the Waynesburg University women's soccer team roared back to down Penn State Altoona 3-1 on Saturday.
The Lions (1-1) opened the scoring during the 20
th minute of action and held the lead for just over 17 minutes. The Yellow Jackets (1-1) got the equalizer in the 37
th minute when sophomore
Teagan Jenner cashed in a penalty kick to make the score 1-1.
The two teams went into halftime with the score still knotted at a tally a piece. The Jackets controlled the second period of play with goals in the 70
th and 79
th minutes. Freshman
Jill Moyer provided the game-deciding point off an assist from classmate
Emily Hill. Waynesburg added an insurance goal from senior
Nikki Davis. Classmate
Sara Hackman provided the assist on tally number three.
Waynesburg fired off 21 total shots in the victory and peppered the Lion goal with 13 of those attempts. The Jacket defense held Altoona to nine shots.
Senior goalkeeper
Heather Fraser earned her first win of the season in net after starting and playing all 90 minutes. She made six saves in her first appearance of the year.
Waynesburg is back in action on Wednesday, Sept. 6, when it hosts Marietta at John F. Wiley Stadium. Start time is scheduled for 6 p.m.
