WAYNESBURG, Pa. (Sept. 25) – The Waynesburg University men's soccer team hosted Shenandoah for a rare Monday night game at John F. Wiley Stadium. The Yellow Jackets proved that playing early in the week agreed with them by downing the Hornets 1-0.
Waynesburg (2-4-2) snapped a five-game winless streak with the victory.
After a scoreless first half, the home team tallied the game's only goal of the night in the 76
th minute. Senior
Austin Zurik did the honors after freshman teammate
Tyler Sisler executed an effective throw-in to set up Zurik from just five yards outside the goal.
That tally was enough for junior goalkeeper
James Snyder, who collected three saves over 90 minutes of shutout goalkeeping. It was a relatively slow night for Snyder, thanks in large part to his teammates, who dominated on offense with 20 shots. Shenandoah (2-7) managed just eight shots on the evening, and were outdone 6-2 in corner kicks.
After playing five-straight games at home, Waynesburg will hit the road to open Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) play on Friday, Sept. 29, at Saint Vincent. Start time is scheduled for 2 p.m.
