Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Knetzer has historic day at Thiel

Senior standout becomes all-time leading rebounder in win over Tomcats

GREENVILLE, Pa. (Jan. 27) – History was made on Saturday, when the Waynesburg University women's basketball team traveled to face off with Thiel in a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) matchup. Senior forward Addy Knetzer added two huge accomplishments to her collegiate resume and played a big role in the Yellow Jackets' 84-66 win over the Tomcats.

Thanks to her team-high 19 point and nine rebounds, Knetzer became the all-time leading rebounder in program history with 971 boards. She also moved into second place on the all-time scoring list with 1,482 points.

The Yellow Jackets (11-8, 7-5) never trailed in the victory, which ended a three-game losing streak. Waynesburg sprinted out of the game by outscoring the Tomcats (3-16, 2-10) 28-18 in the first quarter. The Jackets extended their advantage to 46-31 by the time the two conference rivals broke for halftime.

The Orange and Black lead grew to as many 19 points in the third quarter, before closing out the victory. The Jackets made a total of 35 field goals on the day, while Thiel converted on 24 tries from the floor. That advantage counteracted a sizeable Thiel lead at the foul line, where the Tomcats converted 13-of-17 attempts and Waynesburg sunk five-of-eight foul shots.

Waynesburg was also dominant on the glass, where it outrebounded Thiel by a 47-to-26 margin. The Jackets also snared 16 offensive rebounds, while the Tomcats recorded just three offensive boards.

Knetzer was just one of five double-digit scorers for Waynesburg. Sophomore Erin Joyce took advantage of a rare start by pouring in 17 points, 15 of which came on successful three-point attempts. Senior Rachel Eng went for 14 points and eight rebounds, while junior point guard Monica Starre logged a double-double on 13 points and 10 rebounds. She also dished out a game-high seven assists.

Senior Mackenna Drazich just missed out on a double-double of her own with 10 points and nine rebounds, while freshman Andrea Orlosky contributed 10 points to the winning effort.

Waynesburg returns to action on Wednesday, Jan. 31, with a key PAC home game against Saint Vincent. Tipoff is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
