WAYNESBURG, Pa. (Oct. 11) – The Waynesburg University women's volleyball team hosted the Westminster College Titans in a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) showdown on Thursday. After the Jackets won the first set, the Titans took the match, 3-1.
Waynesburg (4-19, 0-11) fell behind in the first set 7-4 but went on a five-point run to grab a 9-7 lead. The Jackets never trailed for the remainder of the set, even though the Titans (23-1, 10-0) tied things up at 14-14. From this point, Waynesburg regained the lead and capped off the 25-22 set win with a kill by freshman
Hannah Buhr.
In the second set, Westminster grabbed an early lead by winning 10 of the first 14 points. Waynesburg tried to battle back but never got closer than four points and dropped the second set 25-15. The Jackets took an early lead in set three but thanks to two different five-point runs, the Titans won the third, 25-17.
Both teams traded small runs in set four until Waynesburg opened a 14-10 lead. The Jackets stayed ahead of the Titans, before Westminster went on an eight-point run that gave it a 20-16 lead. The Jackets tried to battle back but fell 25-18 in the final set.
Senior
Jordyn Wyllie paced the Waynesburg offense with 14 kills and a hitting percentage of 294. Sophomore
Hannah Colvin followed Wyllie with a hitting percentage over .200 and 11 kills. Junior
Olivia Zuchelli finished with a match-high 37 assists giving her over 400 on the season.
Waynesburg returns to the court on Saturday, October 15, for a PAC matchup against the Chatham Cougars. First serve is set for 1 p.m.
