GREENVILLE, Pa. (Oct. 13) – The Waynesburg University women's soccer team hit the road on Saturday for a showdown with the Thiel Tomcats. The Yellow Jackets scored early in the second half and made the tally stand up for a 1-0 Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) victory.
After both teams were shut out in the first half, sophomore
Maddy Manz buried a shot from a close range in the 46
th minute to put Waynesburg (7-3-2, 3-1) in the lead. Junior goalkeeper
Courtney Syfert and the Jacket defense did the rest with four saves down the stretch to close out the win.
Syfert totaled five saves on the day for her fourth shutout of the year.
Waynesburg held slight advantages in both total shots (14-11) and shots on goal (6-5). Thiel (2-10-3, 1-3-1) boasted a sizeable 4-0 edge in corner kicks.
The Jackets are back in action on Tuesday, when they welcome Chatham to John F. Wiley Stadium. Start time is scheduled for 6 p.m.
