BEAVER FALLS, Pa. (Oct. 24) – The Waynesburg University men's soccer traveled to Geneva on Wednesday night for a crucial Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) contest with the Golden Tornadoes. The Yellow Jackets established a pair of leads against the defending PAC champs, but had to settle for a 3-3 tie.
Junior
Justin Buberl (Westminster, Md. / Westminster) opened the scoring in the fourth minute after taking a feed in the box from senior
Tyler Sisler (Ellerslie, Md. / Mountain Ridge). Unfortunately, the Jackets' (5-9-1, 2-3-1) early advantage didn't last long, as Geneva (7-7-2, 3-3-1) tied the game less than five minutes later.
The early offensive fireworks continued when the home team took its first lead in the 13
th minute off a corner kick. Just after the 15-minute mark of the league battle, Waynesburg tied the game back up at 2-2. This time, it was Sisler doing the scoring by burying his fifth goal of the season, this one of the unassisted variety.
The game's fifth goal was scored late in the 31
st minute when sophomore
Daniel Hott (Cumberland, Md. / Fort Hill) headed in a pass from Buberl to give the Jackets a 3-2 edge. Waynesburg carried that slim advantage into halftime and later into the night.
Unfortunately, the Golden Tornadoes tied the game with 14:10 remaining in regulation and sent it into overtime. Freshman goalkeeper
Jonathan Campbell (Fredericksburg, Va. / James Monroe) played a major role in preserving the tie by making four of his six saves over the 20 minutes of extra time. Waynesburg was unable to put a shot on net following the conclusion of regulation.
The Jackets wrap up the 2018 campaign on Saturday, Oct. 27, when it celebrates senior day with a home match against Washington & Jefferson. Start time is scheduled for 3 p.m.
