WAYNESBURG, Pa. (Feb. 3) – The Waynesburg University women's basketball team used a strong start to power its way to a 73-57 win over Westminster on Saturday. That victory, combined with a Grove City loss, moved the Yellow Jackets into a fourth-place tie in the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) standings.
 
Waynesburg (12-9, 8-6) got off to a quick start by outscoring the Titans (7-14, 3-11) 17-5 in the first quarter. The Yellow Jacket advantage grew to 43-23 by the time the halftime break came around. Waynesburg exploded offensively in quarter number two with 26 points.
 
The Jackets kept its strong play going in the third quarter and by the time period number four rolled around, the home team held a solid 55-34 advantage. The Titans won the fourth-and-final 10 minutes, but it was too little, too late, as the home team closed out the win.
 
Four of the five Waynesburg starters tallied at least 13 point in a balanced Yellow Jacket attack. Senior Mackenna Drazich led the way with a double-double comprised of a team-high 18 points and a game-best 10 rebounds. Senior forward Addy Knetzer matched Drazich with 18 points.
 
Junior point guard Monica Starre contributed 15 points to the winning effort, while senior guard Rachel Eng tallied 13 on the afternoon. Eng also tied for the game lead with three steals. Sophomore guard Erin Joyce dished out a game-high five assists.
 
Waynesburg is back in action on Wednesday, Feb. 7, when it hosts Chatham for another PAC matchup. Tipoff is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
