WAYNESBURG, Pa. (April 14) – The Waynesburg University men's and women's tennis teams took advantage of Saturday's gorgeous weather conditions to play a pair of matches against Ohio Christian. The Yellow Jacket men picked up a 9-0 win, while the women fell by the same score.
Juniors
Jonah Cooper and
Josh Denham got things rolling with an 8-1 win at first doubles. Seniors
Adam McKnight and
Andy Brunette followed with an 8-4 triumph at the number-two flight. The Yellow Jacket (5-7) completed a doubles sweep thanks to the efforts of freshman
Brett Thumm and junior
Brian Drake, who scored an 8-3 victory at third doubles.
Cooper, Denham, Brunette, McKnight, Drake and Thumm all won in straight sets in the singles ranks against the Crusaders (2-12).
Unfortunately, things didn't go as well on the women's side, as Waynesburg (1-12) fell 9-0 to OCU (4-11). Lauren Wadsworth took her sixth-singles match to three sets, but couldn't quite pull out the win in a match that went 6-1, 1-6, 10-7.
The Jacket men are scheduled to return to Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) play on Tuesday, April 17, when they host Geneva. Start time is scheduled for 4 p.m.
