WASHINGTON, Pa. (April 26) – The Waynesburg University softball team traveled to Washington & Jefferson for a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) doubleheader with the Presidents. The Yellow Jackets dropped both contests on the day.

W&J (11-17, 7-9) won the opener 8-0 in six innings and completed the sweep by a 5-3 final score. Though the opener was decided in the third inning when the Presidents put up five runs, four of which came on a grand slam, the late contest was a back-and-forth affair.

After the Presidents opened the scoring with two runs in the bottom of the first, the Jackets (12-18, 5-10) answered with a two-spot in the top of the second. With the bases loaded and nobody out, an error allowed freshman courtesy runner
Sara Knisely to sprint home from third base. Though Waynesburg tied the game during its next at-bat, a double play hindered what could have been a more productive inning.

W&J regained the lead in the third, before the opportunistic Jackets took advantage of another President miscue to tie the game back up at 3-3. Freshman right fielder
Marlee Ott led off the top of the fifth with a triple and sprinted home during the ensuing at-bat on a wild pitch.

Unfortunately, W&J regained the lead in the bottom of the frame and tacked on an insurance run in the sixth to clinch the victory.

Waynesburg wraps up its regular season on Saturday when it hosts Bethany for a conference doubleheader. The Yellow Jackets will also use the day as its Autism Awareness games.
