GREENVILLE, Pa. (April 29) – The Waynesburg University baseball team traveled north to face the Thiel Tomcats, Saturday, for a Presidents Athletic Conference (PAC) matchup. The Yellow Jackets split the doubleheader by dropping the first game 13-3 (eight innings) and winning the second game 7-6 (12 innings).
Thiel (14-20, 10-6) jumped out to an early lead with nine runs in the first three innings. Waynesburg (10-20, 6-10) was able to get on the board in fourth inning as junior left fielder
Tyler Godwin grounded into a double play, but sophomore first baseman
Justin Buberl came home to score.
After trading runs in the following innings, the Tomcats closed out the game in eighth by the final of 13-3. Sophomore starting pitcher
Jonny Kutchman only went the first inning giving up three runs (all earned) with two walks and three wild pitches. Sophomore pitcher
Colton Uzzell was charged with the loss giving up six runs (four earned) in one and two-thirds of innings worked.
Just like in the first game, Thiel grabbed a 3-0 lead in the first pair of innings. The Yellow Jackets cut the deficit to two runs with a single from sophomore right fielder

Waynesburg was able to tie the game up in the sixth inning. The visiting team trimmed its deficit down to a single run when freshman catcher
Chris Lee drove a ball down the left field line for double as Kohan came around to score. Lee then scored on an error committed by Thiel's third baseman during the at-bat of junior shortstop

The Tomcats answered with two runs of their own in the seventh inning that ran the score to 5-3 in favor of the home team. The Yellow Jackets battled back in the next half-inning when Lee scored his second run of the day as Fantaskey singled up the middle moving freshman third baseman
Tyler Srbinovich to third. Srbinovich scored on the very next at-bat as Godwin lined a ball through the left side of the infield that squared the game at five.
The score stayed knotted up until the 11
th inning, when junior second baseman
Tyler Reis launched a solo homerun over the left-center wall. Srbinovich then moved from third to the mound as he tried to preserve the win for Waynesburg. Thiel answered with a run of its own to extend the contest one more inning.
Buberl drove in what would be the winning run in the 12th by singling through the left side and scoring Fanataskey. Srbinvoich came out for the 12th and completed the win for the Yellow Jackets.
Kohan led the Jackets offensively by going a combined four-for-nine with an RBI and two runs scored. Lee went one-for-four in game two but drew a walk while driving in a run and scoring twice himself. Srbinovich picked up the win going two full innings and allowing one run on four hits and one walk.
Waynesburg returns to the diamond for its season finale and senior day when it hosts the Grove City Wolverines on Saturday. First pitched is slated to hurled at 1 p.m.
