LATROBE, Pa. (Sept. 1) – The Waynesburg University volleyball team wrapped up the opening weekend of the 2018 season by playing two matches at the Saint Vincent College Bearcat Challenge. The Yellow Jackets dropped both matches by the final score of 3-0.
The Jackets (1-3) suffered a 25-19, 25-13, 25-13 loss to John Carroll (3-1) and followed that up with a 25-10, 25-14, 25-12 defeat at the hands of Frostburg State (2-2).
Sophomore
Hannah Colvin led the Jacket attack with a team-high 13 kills over six sets played. Junior
Olivia Zuchelli helped out by assisting on 22 of Waynesburg's 35 kills. Zuchelli leaves the first weekend of competition ranked third in the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) in assists per set (5.92).
The Waynesburg defense was led by the senior-freshman combo of
Cassidy Guiser and
Amanda Eckman. Guiser tallied 18 digs over six sets (3.0), while Eckman needed just three sets to compile 16 digs (5.33 per set).
Guiser was honored as a member of the all-tournament team.
The Jackets return to the court on Wednesday, Sept. 5, for a tri-match in Pittsburgh. The Yellow Jackets face Baldwin-Wallace and the host team from La Roche. The event is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m.
