Jacket women down Saint Vincent

Waynesburg rolls to 4-1 win over Bearcats

WAYNESBURG, Pa. (Sept. 29) – The Waynesburg University women's soccer team opened its Presidents' Athletic Conference schedule Saturday at home against Saint Vincent College. The Yellow Jackets scored first and never looked back on its way to a 4-1 victory.

Just 11 minutes into the first half, Waynesburg (5-2-2, 1-0) scored the opening goal as freshman forward Leesha Wagner tallied her second goal of the season off the cross by junior defender Gina Bonura. Sophomore forward Emily Hill scored 20 minutes later for her fourth of the season. Hill headed in the free kick from junior midfielder Teagan Jenner.

After leading 2-0 at the half, the Jackets scored nine minutes after walking out of the locker room. Wagner recorded her second of the match as she buried the ball from eight yards out off the assist from sophomore midfielder Maddy Manz. Bonura capped off the scoring for Waynesburg as she lofted the ball over the goalkeeper from 12 yards out.

Saint Vincent (4-5, 0-1) got on the board in the 66th minute to avoid the shutout. The Bearcats outshot the Jackets 9-7, but Waynesburg put five on goal compared to Saint Vincent's four. Waynesburg only committed five fouls to Saint Vincent's seven.
