Series Breakdown
All-Time Series: Westminster leads 40-33-3
First Meeting: 1910 (Westminster won 17-0)
Last Meeting: 2017 (Westminster won 28-7)

With the departure of Thomas More from the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) in the offseason, Saturday's matchup is back to counting towards the conference records for Westminster and Waynesburg. After Carnegie Mellon and Case Western Reserve joined the league in 2014 as affiliate members, the first game between PAC opponents had not counted against a team's league record until this year.

After being held to 114 total yards of offense in a 19-0 shutout loss to Muskingum in 2017, last week's 31-24 setback to the Muskies showed a positive step forward for the Waynesburg attack. The Yellow Jackets combined 227 yards passing and 101 more on the ground for 328 combined yards against the Muskies.

That quarterback situations for this week's participating teams couldn't have been any different in their respective openers. Waynesburg sent three players out under center. After sophomore Tyler Srbinovich handled the snaps on the opening drive, veteran returning starters Jake Dougherty and Tyler Perone were on the field for the rest of the plays.

After all-time Westminster great Paul Columbo graduated, Westminster fans wondered just what the team would do to fill the position. They didn't have to look far as they got a big transfer in former Slippery Rock quarterback Augustus NeCastro. NeCastro, a junior, had seen starting time as a freshman for the Rock before moving just a half-hour west to continue his playing days with the Titans. NeCastro completed 21-of-38 passes for 164 yards, a touchdown and three interceptions in his Division III debut.

Saturday marks the 76th meeting of the two former NAIA rivals, making Westminster the second-most often played opponent in Waynesburg's history behind Geneva, another former NAIA member. In 2003, Waynesburg defeated Westminster to clinch its only outright PAC title.

Saturday saw the successful debut of two freshman specialists for Waynesburg. Punter Nik Gibson averaged 38 yards over seven punts, three of those were downed inside the opposing 20-yard-line. Rookie Garrett Horne was successful on his first collegiate field goal attempt, which measured 21 yards.

Sophomore Cole Booth put up the second-highest receiving total in the opening week of the 2018 season in the PAC. Booth pulled in four catches for 139 yards, most of which came on a 72-yard touchdown pass. That was also the longest reception recorded by any PAC receiver.
