Waynesburg hosts Bethany and W&J in home tri-match

WAYNESBURG, Pa. (Sept. 8) – The Waynesburg University women's volleyball team hosted a Presidents' Athletic Conference tri-match against Bethany and Washington & Jefferson on Saturday. The Bison and the Presidents swept the home-standing Yellow Jackets 3-1 and 3-0, respectively.

In the first match against the Bison (4-2, 1-1), Waynesburg (1-8, 0-2) got off to a fantastic start by taking set one 25-21. In set number two, the Bison scored the first three points and rolled to a 25-12 victory and evened the score at 1-1.

The third set was very similar to the first as both teams took turns going on lengthy scoring runs. At one point, Bethany held a 16-11 lead, but Waynesburg battled back and put itself ahead 24-23. Unfortunately, the Bison answered with the three-straight points to take the set 26-24. The fourth set was an exact replica of the second set and saw the Bison claim the set 25-12 to close the match.

After getting a break while W&J (3-5, 2-0) was busy beating Bethany 3-1, the Yellow Jackets took on the Presidents. Unfortunately, the second match of the day for Waynesburg went completely different than match one. Waynesburg fell in straight sets, 25-9, 25-16 and 25-18.

Senior Lexy Waldman led the offense with 14 kills for the afternoon followed by fellow senior Jordyn Wyllie with 13. Junior Alyssa Proper led the team with 41 assists while junior Cassidy paced the defense with 37 total digs for the day.

Waynesburg is back home to host Pitt-Greensburg on Tuesday, September 11. Start time for the match is slated for 7 p.m.
