BETHANY, W.Va. (Oct. 11) – The Waynesburg University women's tennis team traveled to Bethany on Friday for a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) match with the Bison. The two teams battled over all nine flights and by the time the final point was scored, it was Bethany that came away with a 5-4 victory.
The Bison (1-6, 1-5) jumped out to a 2-1 edge at the conclusion of doubles play. After Bethany took sets one and two by 8-5 and 8-4 finals, respectively, freshman
Hayley Sweeney (Johnstown, Pa. / Richland) and senior
Lauren Wadsworth (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Shaler) got the Yellow Jackets on the board with an 8-1 triumph at third doubles.
Unfortunately, the home team sealed up the win by sweeping sets one-through-three in singles play. Though it didn't lead to a team victory, Waynesburg dominated sets four-through six. Senior
Sierra Stevens (Bellwood, Pa. / Bellwood-Antis), Sweeney and Wadsworth all scored 6-0, 6-0 victories.
Weather permitting, Waynesburg wraps up its fall schedule on Saturday with a home match against W&J. Start time is set for 12 p.m.
