WAYNESBURG, Pa. (Oc. 3) – The Waynesburg University women's volleyball team hosted Penn State Altoona on Thursday night for its penultimate non-Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) match of the season. The Yellow Jackets were tied with the Lions after two sets, but the visitors took sets three and four to close out a 3-1 victory.
Waynesburg (2-12) dropped the opener by a 25-14 final score, but bounced back with a 25-23 triumph in set two. The home team built a 12-10 lead in set three, but Altoona (5-8) tallied the next eight points on its way to a 25-20 victory.
The Yellow Jackets scored three of the first four points of set four, but Altoona used several lengthy runs to pull away and close the match with a 25-19 victory.
The Waynesburg offense was led by junior
Mya Brooks (Lansing, Mich. / Holt), who put down a team-high nine kills. Freshman
Kayla Stohon (Summerhill, Pa. / Forest Hills) contributed eight kills on the day, while junior
Hannah Colvin (Hagerstown, Md. / Grace Academy) and sophomore
Hannah Buhr (Jefferson, Md. / Brunswick) added seven kills each on the night.
Senior
Alyssa Proper (Titusville, Pa. / Maplewood) contributed to the attack with a match-high 20 assists.
Waynesburg's defensive efforts were powered by sophomore
Alyson Johnson (Raceland, Ky. / St. Joseph Central Catholic), who came up with a contest-best 18 digs.
The Jackets return to PAC competition on Saturday, when they travel to Westminster. Start time is scheduled for 1 p.m.
