WAYNESBURG, Pa. (Oct. 9) – The Waynesburg University women's volleyball team hosted Grove City for a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) match. The Yellow Jackets bounced back from two tough sets, to force a set four. Unfortunately, the Wolverines took the deciding game to pick up a 3-1 victory.
Grove City (14-4, 5-3) jumped out to a 2-0 match lead by winning the first two sets by the scores of 25-15 and 25-7. The Jackets (2-14, 0-6) showed their mettle by bouncing back in set three with a hard-fought 30-28 triumph. Unfortunately, the visitors rebounded to take the match with a 25-19 victory in the fourth-and-deciding game.
Though it came in a loss, junior
Hannah Colvin (Hagerstown, Md. / Grace Academy) exploded for a match-high 16 kills. Senior
Alyssa Proper (Titusville, Pa. / Maplewood) helped out with 20 assists. She was also effective behind the service line, where she posted a contest-best three aces.
The Yellow Jacket defense was led by sophomore
Alyson Johnson (Raceland, Ky. / St. Joseph Central Catholic) who posted a team-high 20 digs. Colvin added 19 digs to an impressive night's work for a double-double, while sophomore
Mallory Stopko (Freeport, Pa. / Freeport) chipped in 16 digs.
The Jackets are back in action on Saturday, Oct. 12, when they travel to Saint Vincent for a PAC tri-match. Waynesburg faces the host Bearcats, as well as Bethany.
