Jacket women host Hiram

Waynesburg drops home contest to Terriers

WAYNESBURG, Pa. (Nov. 13) – The Waynesburg University women's basketball team hosted Hiram at the Rudy Marisa Fieldhouse on Tuesday night for a non-Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) game. After a nearly two-hour delay caused by inclement weather, the Yellow Jackets fell 86-68 to the Terriers.

Though it didn't lead to a win, Waynesburg (0-2) sophomore center Brooke Fuller (Allison Park, Pa. / Hampton) put together a fine night on the court. She led the Yellow Jackets in both points (20) and rebounds (11) to pick up her first double-double of the season. Freshman forward Leighton Croft also had a strong night, coming off the bench to tally 11 point on five-of-six shooting. Croft yanked down six rebounds over 19 minutes of play.

Hiram (1-1) got off to a fast start despite having its arrival at the Rudy Marisa Fieldhouse delayed by the first major snow and ice of the fall. Following a game-opening basket by Fuller, the Terriers scored the next 12 points to take an early 10-point lead.

Unfortunately, the Yellow Jackets were unable to find its way out of the early deficit and never led following Fuller's first two points. Waynesburg trailed 19-10 at the end of the first quarter and 47-28 at halftime.

Croft led a late-game rally with six points in the final five-plus minutes. Overall, the Jackets outscored Hiram 22-16 in the fourth quarter and won the second half by a 40-39 differential.

Waynesburg won the battle on the galss with the Terriers, pulling down 39 rebounds to Hiram's 34 boards. But, turnovers played a key role in determining the game, with the visitors forcing the Orange and Black into 25 of them. Waynesburg managed just 12 turnovers of its own.

The Jackets will look to rebound from Tuesday's setback on Tuesday, Nov. 19, when they travel to Case Western Reserve. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
