CLEVELAND, Ohio (Nov. 19) – The Waynesburg University women's basketball team traveled to Case Western Reserve on Tuesday for a non-Presidents' Athletic Conference matchup. The Yellow Jackets were unable to overcome a 20-point halftime deficit and fell 96-79 to the Spartans.

Waynesburg (0-3) was paced by freshman forward
Zoie Smith (Berlin, Pa. / Berlin Brothersvalley), who led the team in points (17), including a nine-for-10 clip from the free throw line, and rebounds (eight). Senior guard
Alli Delaney (Belmont, Ohio / Union Local) came off the bench to chip in 14 points, 12 of which came on a game-high four three pointers.

The Yellow Jackets' balanced offensive effort featured five players in double digits when it came to scoring. Freshman point guard
Anika Dansby (Massilon, Ohio / Washington) and sophomore center
Brooke Fuller (Allison Park, Pa. / Hampton) tallied 11 points each and junior guard
Andrea Orlosky (Shelocta, Pa. / West Shamokin) contributed 10 to the Orange and Black cause.

Case Western Reserve (1-4) controlled the game virtually from the beginning, opening the night with a 13-2 run and ending the quarter with a 26-19 advantage.

In the second period, the Spartans started out with a 14-2 run to increase its lead to 19 just three minutes into the quarter. By the time both teams broke for halftime, Waynesburg trailed Case Western Reserve 57-37.

The Yellow Jackets battled back in the third quarter, opening on an 8-2 run and eventually cutting the Spartan deficit to 62-51. Unfortunately, that was as close as the comeback attempt came to fruition, despite the Yellow Jackets outscoring the Spartans 42-39 in the second half.

Waynesburg edged Case in terms of turnovers, committing 16 of them, while forcing the home team to cough the ball up 18 times. The Spartans countered with a 44-32 edge in rebounding.

The Jackets will look to bounce back from Tuesday's setback on Friday, Nov. 22, against Houghton. Tipoff from the Rudy Marisa Fieldhouse is scheduled for 7 p.m.
