Jacket women wrap up 2019

Waynesburg travels to Allegheny

MEADVILLE, Pa. (Dec. 30) – The Waynesburg University women's basketball team wrapped up 2019 with a road game at Allegheny on Monday afternoon. The Yellow Jacket offense was firing on all cylinders, but the Gator attack was just a bit better, as the home team picked up an 85-74 victory.

Freshman forward Zoie Smith (Berlin, Pa. / Berlin Brothersvalley) continued to put together a fine debut season with the Yellow Jackets by posting a double-double on 18 points and a squad-high 11 rebounds. She did most of her damage from the free throw line, where she connected on 10-of-13 attempts. She also shot four-of-eight from the floor.

Sophomore center Brooke Fuller (Allison Park, Pa. / Hampton) continued to build on a big year of her own by racking up a team-best 19 points on eight-of-12 shooting from the floor. She just missed out on a double-double of her own with eight rebounds.

Junior Andrea Orlosky (Shelocta, Pa. / West Shamokin) and sophomore guard Kacey Kastroll (South Park, Pa. / South Park) chipped in nine points each on the afternoon.

Waynesburg (1-10) never led in the game, but forged several ties throughout the first half with the Gators (6-5). Allegheny first gained firm control of the contest when a 17-8 run over the final 5:30 of the second quarter turned a tie game into a 44-35 lead for the host squad at the break.

The Orange and Black got as close as eight points of the lead in the second half before suffering the loss. The Jackets came up short of a win, despite out-rebounding Allegheny by a 38-34 margin. Waynesburg was solid from the floor, connecting on 26-of-58 attempts from the field (44.8 percent).

The Yellow Jackets tip off 2020 on Saturday, Jan. 4, when they travel to Geneva for a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) showdown). Start time is scheduled for 1 p.m.
