Jacket women travel to Chatham

Yellow Jackets fall in PAC matchup with the Cougars

PITTSBURGH, Pa. (Dec. 7) – The Waynesburg University women's basketball team traveled to Pittsburgh on Saturday for a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) game at Chatham. The Yellow Jackets were tied 18-18 with the Cougars after the first quarter, but a big second period allowed the home team to pull away en route to an 88-70 win.

Though it didn't result in a win, sophomore center Brooke Fuller (Allison Park, Pa. / Hampton) put together another big offensive day for Waynesburg (1-6, 0-2). She set team highs with 21 points and seven rebounds for the Orange and Black, while shooting nine-of-11 from the floor and three-for-four at the foul line.

Freshman Zoie Smith (Berlin, Pa. / Berlin Brothersvalley) added 12 points on four-of-nine shooting and grabbed five rebounds. Classmate Leighton Croft (Morgantown, W.Va. / Trinity Christian) contributed nine points and six rebounds, while sophomore Kacey Kastroll (South Park, Pa. / South Park) chipped in nine of her own on a trio of three-pointers.

Following its strong opening period, Waynesburg yielded several small runs that Chatham (7-1, 1-1) put together to take a 43-26 lead at halftime. The Cougar lead grew to 71-42 after three periods, but the Orange and Black battled back to win the fourth quarter 28-17.

The Jackets are off next week for final exams. Waynesburg returns to the court on Monday, Dec. 16, for its first home PAC game of the 2019-20 season. Westminster comes to the Rudy Marisa Fieldhouse that afternoon for a 3 p.m. contest.
