WAYNESBURG, Pa. (Sept. 11) – The Waynesburg University volleyball team found itself in a battle with visiting La Roche during Wednesday night's home opener. Trailing 11-6 to the Redhawks in the fifth set, the Yellow Jackets rallied in front of the crowd at the Rudy Marisa Fieldhouse to take the set 15-13 and the match 3-2.
The victory avenges a loss from earlier this season in which La Roche (4-5) downed the Yellow Jackets (1-6) 3-0. Waynesburg won Wednesday's first set 25-20, before dropping set two 25-22. The Jackets regained the match lead with a hard-fought 27-25 triumph in set three, but the Hawks again rebounded, taking set four 25-18 to force the fifth-and-deciding game.
Junior
Hannah Colvin (Hagerstown, Md. / Grace Academy) had a very productive night on the court for the victors, recording a double-double with a team-high 15 kills and 18 digs. Colvin was also effective behind the service line, where she logged six aces.
Fellow junior
Mya Brooks (Lansing, Mich. / Holt) nearly notched a double-double of her own after going for nine kills and an impressive eight aces, which was a squad high. Senior

Alyson Johnson (Raceland, Ky. / St. Joseph Central Catholic) continued building a fine sophomore season by racking up 23 digs.
The Jackets will look to carry the momentum from their first win of the season into Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) play, which gets going Saturday in Pittsburgh. The Yellow Jackets will compete in a tri-match against the host team from Chatham, as well as Geneva. Start time is scheduled for 11 a.m.
