Volleyball opens PAC play

Jackets play two at Chatham

PITTSBURGH, Pa. (Sept. 15) – The Waynesburg University volleyball team opened Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) play by taking part in a tri-match featuring Geneva and the host squad at Chatham. The Yellow Jackets suffered a pair of 3-0 setbacks on the day.
 
Waynesburg (1-8) battled in both matches, despite not being able to take a set. The first contest went 27-25, 25-21, 25-10 in favor of Geneva (8-3, 2-0). The Jackets' day ended by falling 25-21, 25-13, 25-23 to the home-standing Cougars (3-7, 1-1).
 
Junior Hannah Colvin (Hagerstown, Md. / Grace Academy) paced the Orange and Black offense with 15 kills over six sets (2.5 kills per set). The junior/freshman combo of Mya Brooks (Lansing, Mich. / Holt) and Hope Bidelman (Windber, Pa. / Windber) chipped in nine kills each on the day.
 
Junior Alexis Phillips (New Kensington, Pa. / Plum) and senior Alyssa Proper (Titusville, Pa. / Maplewood) shared setting duties and turned in 17 and 13 assists, respectively.
 
Defensively, Waynesburg saw four players reach double digits in digs. Sophomore Mallory Stopko (Freeport, Pa. / Freeport) led the charge with 18 and was followed by Colvin, who picked up 17 over the two matches. Sophomore Alyson Johnson (Raceland, Ky. / St. Joseph Central Catholic) added 16, while Proper contributed 11 for the Orange and Black.
 
Waynesburg takes a brief break from PAC competition with a road match at Franciscan on Tuesday. Start time is scheduled for 7 p.m.
