WAYNESBURG, Pa. (Sept. 29) – The Waynesburg University volleyball team hosted Earlham and Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) opponent Thiel on Saturday for a tri-match at the Rudy Marisa Fieldhouse. The Yellow Jackets dropped a pair of matches to the Quakers and Tomcats.
Waynesburg (2-11, 0-4) opened the day against Thiel (2-15, 1-3) and was on the wrong side of a 3-0 final score. The visiting Tomcats took the contest by the set scores of 25-9, 25-11 and 25-15. After Earlham (11-5) downed Thiel 3-0, the Quakers concluded a 2-0 day by sweeping a 3-0 matchup with the Orange and Black. Earlham won by the set scores of 25-18, 25-14, 25-15.
Junior
Hannah Colvin (Hagerstown, Md. / Grace Academy) led the Waynesburg offensive effort with 13 kills over the day's six sets. Senior
Alyssa Proper (Titusville, Pa. / Maplewood) and junior
Alexis Phillips (New Kensington, Pa. / Plum) helped out with 19 and 13 assists, respectively.
Waynesburg's defensive efforts were led by sophomore
Alyson Johnson (Raceland, Ky. / St. Joseph Central Catholic), who piled up 26 digs over six sets played.
The Jackets are back in action on Thursday, when Penn State Altoona comes to town. Start time is scheduled for 7 p.m.
