PITTSBURGH, Pa. (Sept. 3, 2019) – The Waynesburg men's soccer team traveled north to Pittsburgh on Tuesday to face off with La Roche in a road non-Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) matchup. The Yellow Jacket offense controlled the game from the opening minute and picked up a 3-1 victory.
Waynesburg (1-2) held sizeable advantages in total shots (15-5) and shots on goal (10-3). The victory was the Jackets' second-straight over the Redhawks (0-2) following three-straight losses.
With the score tied at 0-0, the Orange and Black quickly took control of the contest with a pair of goals coming within 49 seconds of each other. Junior
Kyle Deaner (Somerset, Pa. / Somerset) broke up the shutout with an unassisted tally 38:01 into the first half. Before the end of the 38
th minute, the lead grew to 2-0 thanks to junior
Ryan Mills (Westminster, Md. / Westminster) tallying his first of 2019.
La Roche cut its deficit to one just before halftime when it found the back of the net on a penalty kick midway through the 43
rd minute. That was as close as it came to completing a comeback. The score remained 2-1 when the two teams broke for halftime.
Waynesburg added an important insurance goal 15 minutes into period number two when junior
Cam Sutherland (Millville, Mass. / Whitinsville Christian) was set up by senior
Nate Kummer (Pittsburgh, Pa. / North Hills) for his first of the season. Sutherland became the sixth Jacket to score a goal over the year's first three games.
The Orange and Black offense was backed up by junior goalkeeper
Adam Dolan (McDonald, Pa. / West Allegheny), who picked up his first win of the season by making two saves over 90 minutes of play.
The Jackets play their first home game on Monday, Sept. 9, when they host Wilson. Start time is scheduled for 6 p.m.
