WAYNESBURG, Pa. (Jan. 25) – The Waynesburg University men's basketball team opened the second half of its Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) schedule by hosting Grove City, the top team in the conference. The Yellow Jackets fell 80-58.
A three-pointer from senior
Brennan Smith (New Cumberland, W.Va. / Oak Glen) gave Waynesburg (4-14, 4-5) an early 5-2 lead. A 7-0 spurt from the Wolverines (10-7, 7-2) put the visitors ahead 9-5.
Grove City maintained leads until the 10:56 mark of the first quarter when senior guard
Frank Bozicevic (Monroeville, Pa. / Gateway) knocked down a three pointer that put the Orange and Black ahead 21-20. The lead was short-lived, unfortunately, thanks to a half-ending 26-8 run that made the score 46-29 at halftime.
Grove City maintained sizeable leads throughout the second half while closing out the victory.
Smith piled up 15 points on seven-of-13 shooting from the floor. Sophomore
Isaiah Alonzo (Chandler, Ariz. / Tri-City Christian Academy) added 13 points on a five-of-nine effort from the field.
Freshman guard
Ryan Felberg (Twinsburg, Oho / Twinsburg) tallied 12 points, while Bozicevic posted a well-rounded effort on the day. He went for 10 points on offense and really shined defensively with a team-high four steals and a game-high three blocks.
The Yellow Jackets will look to bounce back on Wednesday when Chatham comes to the Rudy Marisa Fieldhouse. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
