Women's basketball hosts Grove City

Yellow Jackets drop PAC showdown with Wolverines

WAYNESBURG, Pa. (Jan. 25) – The Waynesburg University women's basketball team hosted Grove City on Saturday for a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) matchup. The Yellow Jackets fell 84-65 to the Wolverines
 
After sophomore center Brooke Fuller (Allison Park, Pa. / Hampton) dropped in a game-opening layup, Grove City (15-2, 7-2) responded with a 19-4 run that gave it a 13-point lead. After 10 minutes of play, the visitors led 31-17.
 
The second quarter was a much more tightly contested one, which saw the Wolverines edge Waynesburg (4-14, 3-6) 22-21. By the time the two teams broke for halftime, the Jackets found themselves in a 53-38 hole.
 
Defense played an even bigger role in period number three, as the two teams tallied just 13 points each. Grove City closed out the win by edging Waynesburg 18-14 in the fourth quarter.
 
Fuller led Waynesburg with 18 points on nine-of-13 shooting from the field. Senior guard Erin Joyce (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Bishop Canevin) posted an efficient 11 points that came on a four-of-five effort from the field. She knocked down all three of her three-point tries, but made her biggest offensive impact in the passing game, with a game-high eight assists.
 
Senior Alli Delaney (Belmont, Ohio / Union Local) chipped in nine points, while junior Andrea Orlosky (Shelocta, Pa. / West Shamokin) grabbed a team-high 10 rebounds to go along with six points. Freshman point guard Anika Dansby (Massilon, Ohio / Washington) dished out six assists.
 
Waynesburg is back in action on Wednesday when Chatham comes to the Rudy Marisa Fieldhouse. Tipoff is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
