WAYNESBURG, Pa. (Jan. 8) – The Waynesburg University wrestling team competed in its first dual match since Nov. 24, when McDaniel came to the Rudy Marisa Fieldhouse on Wednesday night. After falling behind early, the Yellow Jackets bounced back with a big run in the middleweights that led to a 26-18 victory over the Green Terror.

The contest started at 285 pounds, where freshman Rocky McGeary (McDonald, Pa. / West Allegheny) picked up a forfeit to give Waynesburg (4-3) a 6-0 lead. McDaniel (5-5) tied the match with a forfeit at 125.

The first contested bout of the night came at 133 pounds, where Waynesburg freshman Harley Constable (Smithfield, Pa. / Albert Gallatin) came out on top of his opponent in a 5-3 victory. McDaniel responded with a pin at 141 and a decision win at 149 to take a 15-9 lead.

The home team turned its fortunes around starting at 157 pounds, where freshman Colby Morris (Waynesburg, Pa. / Waynesburg Central) built a sizeable first-period lead and rode it to an 8-4 decision triumph that cut the deficit to 15-12. Senior Zach Mackall (Austintown, Ohio / Austintown-Fitch) put his team back ahead with a pin that took just 1:38 to accomplish at 165 pounds.

Junior Caleb Baxter (Butler, Pa. / Butler) kept the winning going at 174 with a 7-3 victory that stretched his team's advantage to 21-15. Senior Dillion Charlton (Stoystown, Pa. / North Star) followed with a hard-hitting offensive attack that sealed the team win at 184 pounds. Charlton quickly took his opponent down and proceeded to put on a clinic from the top position, stringing together several tilts that allowed him to score a 17-0 technical fall in just 2:56.

McDaniel ended the night with a decision win at 197 pounds, but it was too little, too late thanks to Charlton's efforts.

Waynesburg is back in action on Friday, when it competes in the prestigious Virginia Duals. Its first opponent will be Division II Emmanuel (Ga.) College. Start time is scheduled for 9 a.m.
