Wrestling wraps up regular season

Waynesburg competes at John Summa Invitational

BEREA, Ohio (Feb. 9) – With most of the team staying back in Waynesburg to prepare for the upcoming Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) Championships, a small group of Yellow Jacket wrestlers traveled to Saturday's John Summa Invitational, which was hosted by Baldwin Wallace.
 
Senior Dillion Charlton (Stoystown, Pa. / North Star) led the way for Waynesburg with a 2-2 day on the mats at 174 pounds. He scored a win by pin and another by technical fall. Fellow senior Dan Verhovsek (Johnstown, Pa. / Richland) also logged multiple wins at the event, going 2-2 with all four bouts going the distance and ending in decision at 184 pounds.
 
Freshman Austin Ryan (Burgettstown, Pa. / Burgettstown) picked up his first collegiate win, which came by forfeit. That victory was part of his run to a fourth-place finish at 125 pounds.
 
Sophomore Zach Baughman (Franklin, Pa. / Franklin) and senior Adam Rigney (Mount Union, Pa. / Mount Union) earned victories on the day.
 
Waynesburg can now turn its full attention to defending its PAC team title at Saturday's conference championships, which will be hosted by Washington & Jefferson. Start time is schedule for 11 a.m.
