WAYNESBURG, Pa. (Oct. 12) - The Waynesburg University volleyball team welcomed Geneva to town on Tuesday night for a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) showdown. The two squads put on an entertaining show for the crowd gathered at the Rudy Marisa Fieldhouse that lasted a full five sets. Unfortunately for the Yellow Jackets, the Golden Tornadoes pulled away late to score the 3-2 triumph.Â
Things started well for Waynesburg (9-13, 3-9), as it took the opening set 25-23. Geneva (8-11, 5-3) roared back over the next two frames with wins by the scores of 25-14 and 25-15. However, the Jackets showed their toughness by gathering themselves and forcing a fifth set with a 25-22 triumph.
The home team stayed right with Geneva through the first 18 points of the decider, as the GT's held a 10-8 edge. After the visitors moved ahead 12-8, the Jackets managed one more rally to make the score 12-11. The Black and Gold closed out the hard-fought win with three-straight match-deciding points.Â
