LATROBE, Pa. (Oct. 21) – The Waynesburg University volleyball team traveled to Saint Vincent on Thursday night for a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) match. The Yellow Jackets bounced back from a slow start to extend the contest, but the Bearcats ultimately took the win by the final score of 3-1.
Saint Vincent (8-13, 5-9) built a 2-0 lead after taking the first sets by the scores of 25-16 and 25-18. Waynesburg (9-17, 3-13) rebounded by taking set three 25-22. Unfortunately, the Bearcats closed out the win in set four by the final score of 25-10.
The Jacket offense featured a pair of players with double-digit kills. Freshman Makayla Osborn (Salem, Ohio / Heartland Christian School) and junior Alexys Marsh (Panama, N.Y./Panama Central) did the honors with 12 and 11 successful attacks, respectively.
Freshman Paige Cousley (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Chartiers Valley) logged another strong showing from the setter position with a match-high 34 assists. She added a pair of service aces to her night.
Defensively, senior Alyson Johnson (Raceland, Ky. / St. Joseph Central Catholic) posted big numbers from her libero spot. The veteran standout piled up a contest-best 31 digs on the night. Junior Macie Hothem (St. Clairsville, Ohio / St. Clairsville) and freshman Jordan Stein (Manor, Pa. / Norwin) chipped in 14 and 12 digs, respectively.
The Jackets return to the Rudy Marisa Fieldhouse on Saturday, Oct. 23, when they host Chatham for senior day. Start time is scheduled for 11 a.m.
