GROVE CITY, Pa (Dec. 1) – The Waynesburg University women's basketball team traveled to Grove City College for a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) matchup on Wednesday. The Yellow Jackets battled back from several sizeable deficits before falling 63-55 to the host Wolverines.
Grove City (4-1, 2-0) jumped out to a 25-20 lead at the end of the first quarter, which was easily the highest scoring of the four periods. At the end of the second quarter, the Yellow Jackets (0-7, 0-2) were hot on the heels of the Wolverines as they cut the deficit to just three points (34-31) before the two teams broke for halftime.
The game was ultimately decided in the third quarter, which saw the host team outscore the Orange and Black 18-7 over 10 minutes of play. By the time the fourth quarter got underway, the Jackets found themselves in a 52-38 hole.
Despite facing one of the top programs in the conference, Waynesburg didn't give up the fight. After falling behind 57-40, the visitors outscored Grove City 15-6 over the final 8:44 of play. Unfortunately, the Jackets couldn't quite complete the comeback before time ran out on the evening.
Senior center
Brooke Fuller (Allison Park, Pa. / Hampton) led the way for the Yellow Jackets by posting a double-double with game highs in both points (21) and rebounds (18). Sophomore
Marley Wolf (Ellwood City, Pa. / Riverside) racked up 16 points and added five rebounds to a productive evening. Senior guard
Kacey Kastroll (South Park, Pa. / South Park) contributed nine points, five rebounds and four assists to the Waynesburg effort.
Waynesburg hosts conference foe Franciscan on December 1, 2021. Tipoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.
