Morgan named head coach at Wilson College

Waynesburg assistant soccer coach made a name for himself as a player and coach

WAYNESBURG, Pa. (Feb. 10) – After spending six total years at Waynesburg University as both a player and coach in the Yellow Jacket soccer programs, Zack Morgan has accepted the head men's soccer coach job at Wilson College in Chambersburg, Pennsylvania.

"Becoming a head coach has been a career goal of mine for a while," Morgan said. "Being able to learn over the past years at both Grace Academy and Waynesburg University have been critical to making this goal a reality, and I am very thankful for those opportunities to stretch and grow myself into a head coach. I couldn't be more excited to put into practice all I have learned over the years and get started at Wilson!"

Morgan first came to Waynesburg as a student-athlete in 2012 from Hagerstown Community College and used his final two years of eligibility with the Yellow Jackets. During that time frame, he started 32 of 34 games as a defender and was named second-team All-Presidents' Athletic Conference in 2013.

"Waynesburg is and will be a special place for me. I am so thankful for the opportunity to play college soccer and coach here," said Morgan. "I am even more thankful for all of those who believed in me and encouraged me along the way."

Following graduation, he served as Athletic Director and head boys soccer coach at Grace Academy in Hagerstown, Md. Morgan rejoined the Yellow Jackets as an assistant coach of both the men's and women's soccer teams in 2017 under Brad and Laura Heethuis.

"As an assistant coach, one of the most important aspects of your development is those who you learn from daily. Brad and Laura Heethuis have been truly amazing mentors, supporters and friends over the past four years and I credit my growth to how they run our programs at Waynesburg," Morgan said. "Bringing all of our experiences together here has definitely prepared me with a wide variety of coaching philosophies and growth."

Along with his coaching duties, Morgan was extremely involved in Waynesburg University campus life. He served as the advisor for the Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) and the Waynesburg Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC).

"Quite simply, Waynesburg has been our second home. [My wife] Kimber and I have lived here for a combined seven years and through that time, Waynesburg has done nothing but show it is a community of people who simply want the best for one another," Morgan said. "The community extends in so many ways from our players, who we will miss dearly, to our church, and to all of our awesome staff."

Ironically, Morgan helped coach the Waynesburg men to a thrilling 5-4 win over Wilson in 2019. He officially begins his duties with the Phoenix on Feb. 22.
