WAYNESBURG, Pa. (Feb. 25) – The Waynesburg University women's basketball team made a long-awaited return to competition on Thursday night when it hosted Chatham for a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) contest. The Yellow Jackets may have been suffering from a bit of rust after not competing since Feb. 13, as they dropped a 70-44 final score to the Cougars.
Chatham (2-4) scored the first five points of the game and never trailed over the entirety of the contest. The visitors led 20-10 after the first quarter and took a 35-19 advantage into the locker room at the break. Waynesburg (0-5, 0-5) put together a solid third quarter and outscored the Cougars 11-10 in a defense-heavy 10 minutes. Chatham closed out the win with a 24-15 fourth.
Senior
Andrea Orlosky (Shelocta, Pa. / West Shamokin) was a force on the glass for the Jackets. She pulled down a game-high 14 rebounds and combined that with a team-high 14 points for one of two Waynesburg double-doubles on the night. Junior forward
Brooke Fuller (Allison Park, Pa. / Hampton) chipped in 12 points, eight of which came at the free throw line, along with 10 boards.
Freshman guard
Avery Robinson (Ravenna, Ohio / Ravenna) tallied 10 points and her teams only two three-pointers of the game. Freshman guard
Marley Wolf (Ellwood City, Pa. / Riverside) was a force defensively and swiped away a game-high five steals.
Waynesburg will look to right the ship before Saturday, Feb. 27, when it hosts Washington & Jefferson. Tip-off is scheduled for 1 p.m.
