WAYNESBURG, Pa. (Feb. 27) – Following a two-week hiatus, the Waynesburg University women's basketball team hosted PAC-leading W&J for its second game in three days. The Presidents jumped out to a quick lead in the game and never looked back, upending the Yellow Jackets 79-45.
Waynesburg (0-6, 0-6) fell down 7-0 before junior forward
Abigail Green (Forestville, Pa. / Portersville Christian School) laid in the first basket of the game for the home team. W&J (6-0, 6-0) kept up the tempo, eventually pulling out to an 18-7 lead with 2:00 left in the first quarter. By the end of the first period, the Yellow Jackets trailed 20-11.
In the second quarter, the Presidents built leads as large as 18 points with just over two minutes left in the half. However, an 8-2 run by the Yellow Jackets to finish off the half cut that deficit to 12 points at 40-28 as the teams went back to their respective locker rooms.
Unfortunately, a 22-4 run to start the second half sealed the game for the visitors.
Senior guard
Andrea Orlosky (Shelocta, Pa. / West Shamokin) and junior forward
Brooke Fuller (Allison Park, Pa. / Hampton) tied for the team lead in points with 14 each. Green paced the team in rebounds with six and added five points.
Waynesburg will be back in action Tuesday, March 2, when it travels to Bethany to take on the Bison. First tip is set for 6 p.m.
