GREENVILLE, Pa. (March 25) – The Waynesburg University women's volleyball team traveled to Thiel Thursday evening for a single Presidents' Athletic Conference match. The Yellow Jackets upended the Tomcats for a 3-1 victory (25-10, 25-23, 20-25, 25-15).
The win brings Waynesburg's record to 2-8 overall and 2-5 in PAC play. This is the first time since the 2015 season that the Yellow Jackets have won multiple conference matches in a single season.
In the opening set, Waynesburg jumped out to an 8-2 lead and never looked back. Thiel (2-6, 2-5) battled back to cut the deficit to 15-9 at one point, but Waynesburg rolled the rest of the set to win 10 of the next 11 points to go up 1-0.
Set two was much more tightly-contested, as the two teams traded leads all the way to 23-23 with eight total lead changes until that point. Waynesburg secured the ninth lead-change of the set and won each of the last three points to secure a 2-0 lead with a 25-23 victory.
Looking to win with a clean sweep, Waynesburg fell behind 6-2, before tying the score at 14-14.
Thiel won the next two points and Waynesburg never took a lead in the third frame, but it did push the score to 22-20 in favor of the home team before Thiel took the final three points of the set.
The fourth set started with Thiel holding a 6-5 advantage in the early goings. Waynesburg got hot and took the lead back for good, rattling off four-straight points to push the lead to 9-6. Thiel battled back and cut the deficit to just one at 10-9. From there, it was all Waynesburg.
The Yellow Jackets scored 15 of the next 20 points to finish off a convincing victory against the rival Tomcats.
The Waynesburg attack was led by senior outside hitter
Hannah Colvin (Hagerstown, Md. / Grace Academy), who had a team-high 18 kills on 47 attacks with just eight errors, good for a .213 attack percentage. She also had the most digs on the team, recording 21. Junior outside hitter
Hannah Buhr (Jefferson, Md. / Brunswick) added 10 kills to the cause.

Trysten Smith (Senecaville, Ohio / Shenandoah) split the setting duties almost evenly, as Phillips finished the night with 21 assists and Smith finished with 18. Defensively, junior libero

Mya Brooks (Lansing, Mich. / Holt) led the team in blocks, with three.
The Yellow Jackets will be back in action on Tuesday, March 30, when they travel to Latrobe, Pennsylvania, to take on the Saint Vincent Bearcats. Start time is set for 7 p.m.
