Women's soccer downs Bethany 3-1

Jackets come back from early deficit to take down Bison

WAYNESBURG, Pa. (March 27) – The Wayneburg University women's soccer team welcomed Bethany to John F. Wiley Stadium on Saturday afternoon for a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) matchup with the Bison. After giving up the first goal of the day, the Yellow Jackets rebounded for three-straight tallies and a 3-1 win.

Bethany (0-3, 0-3) needed just 4:03 to open the scoring a take a 1-0 lead. Just 2:48 later, Waynesburg struck for its first goal of the season. Freshman Grace Ingram (Valencia, Pa. / Mars) showed off her touch by placing a 30-yard free kick into an upper corner for the tying score.

Junior over 20 minutes later, senior Jessica Silbaugh (South Riding, Va. / Freedom) was fouled inside the 18-yard box, awarding her a penalty kick. Silbaugh converted the try to give the Jackets their first lead of the afternoon.

Waynesburg logged an important insurance point in the 66th minute, thank to an unassisted goal from sophomore Emily Redman (La Plata, Md. / La Plata).

Waynesburg's best offensive output of the year was more than enough support for goalies Faith Falick (Bridgeville, Pa. / South Fayette) and Kennedy Schuck (Marietta, Ohio / Marietta). Falick started and got the win after allowing a goal and making a save over the first 76:39 of play. Schuck played the final 13:21 of the contest.

Waynesburg dominated many of the game's major statistical categories. The Jackets out-shot Bethany19-4 and held a 13-2 advantage in shots on goal. Waynesburg also took five corner kicks to Bethany's zero.

The Jackets are back in action on Tuesday, March 30, when they host Washington & Jefferson. Start time is scheduled for 7 p.m.
