WAYNESBURG, Pa. (March 6) – Waynesburg senior guard
Andrea Orlosky (Shelocta, Pa. / West Shamokin) scored her 1,000
th career point on a fourth-quarter jumper to become the 12
th woman in Yellow Jacket history to reach the milestone against Thiel Saturday afternoon. The former All-PAC performer paced all scorers with 18 points to lead the Yellow Jackets to their first win of the season on senior day by a score of 64-47.
Orlosky, who leads the PAC in rebounding,, also had a game-high 10 boards for a double-double and tied for the team lead in assists (five).
Waynesburg (1-7, 1-7) only trailed following the opening basket of the game, but the Yellow Jackets got the lead right back and after some back-and-forth competition, they held a 12-10 advantage over the Tomcats (1-6, 1-6) with four minutes left in the first quarter.
Waynesburg took control of the contest thanks to an 18-2 run that gave the home team a 30-12 lead. Thiel chipped into the advantage over the final few minutes of the half. When the two teams broke for halftime, the Yellow Jackets put together a 38-28 advantage.
Waynesburg continued to slowly pull away over the final two quarters and put together an 18-point advantage before settling in for the 17-point victory.
Junior forward
Brooke Fuller (Allison Park, Pa. / Hampton) and freshman guard
Avery Robinson (Ravenna, Ohio, Ravenna) both tallied double-digit points with 12 and 11, respectively. Fuller also finished with eight rebounds and four blocks, while Robinson tied for the team lead with five assists.
Senior guard
Elena McDermott (Slippery Rock, Pa. / Slippery Rock) tied her career high with seven rebounds, while adding six points and two assists over 38 minutes of action.
As a team, Waynesburg connected on 24-of-68 field goal attempts (35.3 percent) and was successful on 12-of-13 free throw tries. The Yellow Jackets also won the rebounding battle 47-45.
Waynesburg will be back in action Tuesday, March 9, as it hosts Franciscan at the Rudy Marisa Fieldhouse in the final game of the PAC regular season. Opening tip is set for 7 p.m.
