GREENVILLE, Pa. (April 13) – The Waynesburg University women's soccer team traveled to Thiel for a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) matchup on Tuesday evening. The Yellow Jackets scored first, but the Tomcats rebounded to pick up a 2-1 victory.
Waynesburg (2-5, 2-5) got things rolling with a goal in the eighth minute. Junior
Meghan Briski (Gibsonia, Pa. / Pine-Richland) found the back of the net on an unassisted score to give her team the early advantage.
Thiel responded in the 35
th minute to tie the score at 1-1, which was also the score at halftime. Just 4:58 into the second half, the host squad struck again to make the score 2-1. The Yellow Jackets peppered the Tomcat goal with shot-after-shot, but couldn't come up with an equalizer before time expired.
Waynesburg suffered the loss despite outshooting Thiel 16-8. However, the shots on goal differential was a much tighter 7-6. The Jackets also held a major 8-2 advantage in corner kicks.
Waynesburg returns to the pitch on Saturday, April 17, for a road game at Geneva. Start time is scheduled for 5 p.m.
