Women's soccer blanks Geneva

Jackets down Golden Tornadoes 1-0

BEAVER FALLS, Pa. (April 17) – The Waynesburg University women's soccer team traveled to Geneva Saturday afternoon for a Presidents' Athletic Conference matchup. While the Yellow Jackets dominated the contest, senior midfielder Jessica Silbaugh's goal in the 55th minute proved to be the difference as Waynesburg got the win by a score of 1-0.
 
The Yellow Jackets (3-5, 3-5) were on the offensive side of the field for most of the afternoon, recording 10 shots in the first half compared to Geneva's two. Despite the shot differential in the opening 45 minutes, the score remained tied 0-0 entering the second half.
 
Waynesburg continued to put pressure on the Golden Tornadoes (2-4, 2-4) offensively, eventually ending with Silbaugh's goal in the 55th minute. The tally was her second of the season and was assisted upon by junior defender Haley Frizzell (Finleyville, Pa. / Ringgold). Prior to the goal, the Yellow Jackets had four-consecutive corner kick opportunities.
 
Geneva had just one shot on goal in the contest, which was saved by sophomore keeper Faith Falick (Bridgeville, Pa. / South Fayette) in the 73rd minute.
 
As a team, Waynesburg outshot Geneva 21-3 overall with a 10-1 margin in shots on goal. The Yellow Jackets generated eight corner kick opportunities compared to Geneva's one. Freshman midfielder Kate James (Silver Spring, Md. / St. John's College H.S.) led the team in shots, with four, including two on frame. Sophomore midfielder Emily Redman (Laplata, Md. / Laplata), added three shots, including one on net.
 
Waynesburg finishes out the regular season on Saturday, April 24, against Franciscan at John F. Wiley Stadium. Start time is set for 1 p.m.
