BEAVER FALLS, Pa. (April 17) – The Waynesburg University men's soccer team brought its stingy, gritty style of play north to Geneva to face the number-one team in the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) on Saturday. The Yellow Jacket defense continued to prove itself as one of the best in the conference, but the Orange and Black offense couldn't find the back of the net, as the Golden Tornadoes pulled out a 1-0 win.
Geneva (7-1, 7-1) got off to a quick start and tallied what wound up being the game's only goal in the eighth minute of play. However, from that point on, the Jackets (3-4-1, 3-4-1) kept the potent Geneva attack from adding to its lead.
Though scoring chances were hard to come by, Waynesburg rallied in the final four minutes with a couple of solid opportunities. In the 86
th minute, senior Jarrett Choi (Hagerstown, Md. / Grace Academy) put a shot on goal that was denied by the Golden Tornado keeper, but also resulted in a corner kick. That corner led to one last shot for the Jackets courtesy of freshman
Logan Corradi (Darlington, Pa. / Blackhawk), but it didn't find the mark and the time eventually ran out of the Jackets' comeback hopes.
Senior
Adam Dolan (McDonald, Pa. / West Allegheny) kept his team's upset hopes alive over 90 minutes in goal by tallying eight saves on the evening.
Waynesburg's defensive prowess held the top-scoring offense in the league to well below its 3.43 goals per game average.
The Jackets are scheduled to wrap up their regular season schedule on Saturday, April 24, with a home game against Franciscan. Start time is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
