WAYNESBURG, Pa. (April 7) – The Waynesburg University women's lacrosse team hosted Westminster for a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) match on Wednesday night. The Yellow Jackets posted a solid second-half effort, but it wasn't enough to overcome a halftime deficit in a 19-7 loss.
Westminster (1-4, 1-1) scored the first three goals of the contest, before Waynesburg (0-6, 0-2) got on the board thanks to a goal from sophomore
Eve O'Sullivan (Latrobe, Pa. / Greater Latrobe) 6:21 into the half. The Titans responded with the next five tallies, before junior
Camryn Dyer (Church Hill, Md. / Queens Anne County) split the pipes with just over 13 minutes remaining until halftime.
Westminster went on to score the final six goals of the first half and take a 14-2 advantage into the break. That lead grew to 16-2 after Westminster posted the first two goals of period number two. From that point on, the Jackets scored five of the final eight points of the evening.
O'Sullivan completed a hat trick with a pair of goals over the final 23:51 of action. Sophomores
Rachel Caldwell (Ligonier, Pa. / Ligonier Valley) and
Alexis Shandor (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Baldwin) and
Hannah Rosenberger (Bruceton Mills, W.Va. / Preston) logged one score each down the home stretch of the contest. Caldwell also assisted on two of the goals.
Senior
Riley Yoder (Lancaster, Ohio / Fisher Catholic) started and played all 60 minutes in goal. She logged seven saves on the complete-game effort.
The Jackets are back in action on Saturday, April 10, when they host Chatham for a PAC matchup. Start time is scheduled for 8 p.m.
