Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Fuller eclipses 1,000 points against Grove City

Senior center's big day not enough against Wolverines

WAYNESBURG, Pa. (Jan. 22) – The Waynesburg University women's basketball team welcomed Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) rival Grove City to the Rudy Marisa Fieldhouse on Saturday. Though the Yellow Jackets fell 60-55 to the Wolverines, there was still reason to celebrate on the day.

Senior center Brooke Fuller (Allison Park, Pa. / Hampton) became the 13th member of Waynesburg's (1-13, 1-7) 1,000-point club after picking up her fourth point of the day. The veteran post player didn't stop scoring after making it to the millennial mark either, as she piled up a game-high 24 points on 10-of-17 shooting from the floor. As if that wasn't enough, Fuller pulled down a contest-best 12 rebounds for her team-leading fourth double-double of the season and tied with freshman teammate Madisen Dayton (Ridgeley, W.Va. / Calvary Christian Academy) for the game lead with four steals.

Grove City (7-6, 4-3) got off to a fast start and led 17-8 at the end of the first quarter. Waynesburg started righting the ship in the second period and outscored the visitors16-15 in the over the next 10 minutes and trailed 32-24 at the halftime break.

GCC rebounded in the third to extend its advantage to 50-40. However, the Orange and Black saved some of its best basketball for the fourth-and-final quarter. After falling behind 55-42 with 7:26 remaining in the game, the Jacket defense clamped down on Grove City and kept them off the scoreboard for almost six minutes.

Meanwhile, Waynesburg pieced together 10 points on a pair of baskets from sophomore Avery Robinson (Ravenna, Ohio / Ravenna), two Fuller foul shots and five points from junior guard Anika Dansby (Massilon, Ohio / Washington), three of which came on a make from downtown that pulled the home team to within two at 55-53 with 1:39 left to play.

Unfortunately, the Wolverines broke out of their long scoring drought, and even though Fuller answered right back with her final two points of the night, the visitors were able to close the game out with one more layup and a free throw.

Dansby just missed out on joining Fuller in the double-double club after going for nine points, 11 rebounds and two assists. Robinson added nine points of her own during the afternoon.

Waynesburg is back in action on Monday, Jan. 24, with a road trip to Chatham. The PAC matchup is scheduled to tip off at 5:30 p.m.
