Women's soccer rolls past Thiel

Yellow Jackets build 4-0 halftime lead before downing Tomcats 5-1

GREENVILLE, Pa. (Oct. 1) – The Waynesburg University women's soccer team traveled north to Thiel on Saturday for a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) showdown. The Yellow Jacket offense found its rhythm in a big way, as the visitors scored a 5-1 victory against the host Tomcats.

Six different Yellow Jackets (3-4-3, 1-1-2) tallied points – including five goals from five different shooters – on the day. Waynesburg built a 4-0 advantage by halftime thanks to goals from sophomore Demaree Livingston (Willow Grove, Pa. / Upper Dublin), junior Jacinda Devart (Grafton, W.Va. / Grafton), senior Emily Redman (La Plata, Md. / La Plata) and freshman Chloe Zook (Lititz, Pa. / Warwick). Fellow freshman Kylie Talbert (Boonsboro, Md. / Boonsboro) provided the assist for Zook's team-leading fourth tally of the year.

After returning to the field for the second half, the Jackets expanded their lead to 5-0 in the 57th minute when sophomore Brooklyn Loveland (New Cumberland, W.Va. / Oak Glen) logged an unassisted score. Thiel (2-6-0, 0-4-0) ended Waynesburg's shutout bid with a goal in the 57th minute.

Waynesburg used all three of its goalies in the victory. Senior Kennedy Schuck (Marietta, Ohio / Marietta) started and got the win after playing the entire first half. Senior Autumn Blair (Penn Hills, Pa. / Penn Hills) started the second half and logged the next 25:05 of time in between the pipes. Freshman Mya Riggle (Ford City, Pa. / Armstrong) closed out the day and logged the victors' only save on the stat sheet.

The Orange and Black outshot Thiel by a 16-7 margin and recorded 15 shots on goal to the Tomcats' two. The visitors also held a sizeable 6-0 advantage in corner kicks.

Waynesburg will look to carry the momentum from Saturday's victory into Tuesday's conference showdown with Washington & Jefferson at John F. Wiley Stadium. Start time is scheduled for 8 p.m.
