Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Men's Soccer hosts Westminster for senior day

Yellow Jackets score first but can't hold the lead in 3-1 setback

WAYNESBURG, Pa. (Oct. 16) – The Waynesburg University men's soccer team hosted Westminster for a senior day Saturday Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) game at John F. Wiley Stadium. The Yellow Jackets struck first and looked primed for an important league victory. Unfortunately, the Titans had other plans, as they came back to pick up a 3-1 triumph.

Just over 10 minutes into the game, junior Tyler Morhbacher (Freedom, Pa. / Freedom) gave Waynesburg (3-6-5, 1-3-3) a 1-0 edge after taking a feed from freshman Alex Canestraro (Wheeling, W.Va. / Wheeling Park). The Yellow Jackets maintained their advantage for roughly 22:45, before the Titans (7-5-2, 2-3-2) knotted things up at 1-1.

With the score still tied in the 76th minute, Westminster posted the eventual game-winning goal. It added an insurance point early in the 87th minute to seal up the victory.

The two teams logged 19 total shots each, while the Titans put one more shot on goal (9-8) than the host squad. Waynesburg held a sizeable advantage in corner kicks (10-3), but it wasn't enough to get the Jackets the win.

Mohrbacher and senior Samuel Hawkins (St. Mary's County, Md. / Great Mills), who was honored before the game as the team's lone senior, posted the top two individual shot totals of the day at five and four, respectively. Sophomore goalkeeper Michael Francus (Bethel Park, Pa. / Bethel Park) started and played all 90 minutes in goal. He racked up six saves on the day.

The Jackets are next in action on Wednesday, Oct. 19, when they travel to Grove City for their final regular season road game of 2022. Start time is scheduled for 4:30 p.m.
