GREENVILLE, Pa. (Oct. 6) – The Waynesburg University women's volleyball team traveled to Thiel on Thursday for a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) match. The Yellow Jackets got off to a strong start, but it wasn't enough to carry the visitors to a win, as the Tomcats came back for a 3-1 victory.
Waynesburg (2-16, 0-3) was looking for an upset of the host squad (10-7, 3-0) after grabbing a 25-18 win in set one. Unfortunately for the Orange and Black, Thiel responded to the challenge with set victories of 25-6, 25-12 and 25-20.
Freshman
Emily Stutzman (Chambersburg, Pa. / Chambersburg) put together one of the best performances of her young collegiate career. She cracked double digits in kills with a team-high 13, picked up half a block and posted four digs.
Junior
Trysten Smith (Senecaville, Ohio / Shenandoah) helped out the Waynesburg attack with 17 assists, while freshman
Riley Ruffley (Bedford, Pa. / Bedford) chipped in 12 helpers.
Defensively, the Jackets were paced by sophomore
Jordan Stein (Manor, Pa. / Norwin), who tallied a squad-best 19 digs. Senior
Alexys Marsh (Panama, New York / Panama Central) logged 18 digs, while sophomore
Paige Cousley (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Chartiers Valley) contributed 17.
Senior
Kayla Stohon (Summerhill, Pa. / Forest Hills) provided a solid presence around the net with a match-high four blocks.
Waynesburg is back in action on Tuesday, Oct. 11, with a road PAC match at Geneva. Start time is scheduled for 7 p.m.
